Summary/Objective

Maintain, operate, and monitor buildings and properties to ensure functionality.

Essential Job Duties

Ensure the maintenance, upkeep, repair and replacement of aquaculture, laboratory, and visitor center equipment.

Establish and document maintenance schedules for wells, engines, pumps, generators, chillers, valves, filters, water towers, incubators, ovens, etc.

Oversee the maintenance, upkeep, repair and replacement of exhibits, shop and storage bays, offices, locker rooms, parking lots, etc.

Check and maintain the facility security system, automated gates and fences, issue keys, and communicate with the alarm monitoring company, fire, and sheriff officials.

Assist in road and non-road vehicle general maintenance.

Respond to calls initiated by the electronic monitoring system.

Hire, supervise, and train staff.

Order gasoline and diesel fuels.

Write and supervise contracts for grounds maintenance, janitorial services, heat exchanger maintenance, plumbing, electrical, security and fire protection, and others as needed.

Assist in budget preparation for area of responsibility.

Make recommendations for construction maintenance projects.

Act as the safety officer by establishing an active safety program including training with individual pieces of equipment.

Provide oversight for the facility security system to prevent theft and break-ins.

Provide protection such as non-slip mats or material to help prevent slipping on wet areas in the hatchery building and around the ponds.

Ancillary Job Duties

Manage the maintenance, upkeep, and repair of aquaculture equipment at the Missouri State Fair.

Assist the biological staff with rearing spawning fish when needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET required.
  • Three (3) years of experience involving electrician, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry work.
  • Must maintain a valid, current CDL.
  • HVAC compliance training.
  • Universal Technician Certification for CFC, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department staff, sales representatives, contractors, and service personnel.
  • Ability to safely operate large power shop tools, hand tools, chain saws, ATVs, HVAC systems, buffers, and sewer lift station equipment.
  • Ability to work weekends and irregular shifts, as needed.
  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
  • Skilled in plumbing repair and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems.

Work Environment

  • Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Regularly work in outdoor weather where wet, humid conditions are possible.
  • Occasionally work in high places, requiring the use of lift devices.
  • Frequently exposed to vibration and loud noises associated with power tools requiring hearing protection.
  • Occasionally exposed to oils, chemicals and airborne particles which may require the use of a respirator and to electrical hazards requiring proper specific safety procedures.
