Summary/Objective

Perform custodial duties and maintain build at Perform custodial duties and maintain build at Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery Conservation Education Center.

Essential Job Duties

  • Responsible for all maintenance and custodial duties at the Center.
  • Performs general carpentry work such as painting, drywall, finishing.
  • Performs janitorial services as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, troubleshoot breakdowns, oversee contracted repair services.
  • Assists site staff with room set-up for special events and meetings.
  • Inventories equipment.
  • Maintains tools and equipment as needed.
  • Performs routine inspections on MDC equipment.
  • Performs maintenance on mechanical aquarium systems.
  • Clears snow from sidewalks.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

  • Other duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • At least one (1) year of related experience, including custodial, carpentry and HVAC maintenance experience. Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment for land management.
  • Knowledge of basic wiring, plumbing, carpentry, and landscape maintenance and repairs.
  • Working knowledge of facility maintenance equipment and the use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to define a problem, analyze relevant information, and develop solutions and plans to solve the problem.
  • Ability to interact with the general public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to develop cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours, as needed.

Work Environment

  • Frequently work in outdoor weather which may be hot, cold, wet or humid.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.
  • May be subject to exposure to mechanical oils, fumes or airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts.

Physical Abilities

  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Frequently operate tools and heavy equipment safely.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, and three-dimensional vision
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
