Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for implementing the Discover Nature Fishing Program and aids in angler recruitment and retention efforts in the Central Region. Additionally, assisting with a diverse suite of conservation educational programs.

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach a variety of angling methods
  • Coordinate program schedules for self, volunteers, and partners
  • Work with community groups to deliver programs
  • Maintain region-wide rod and reel loaner program
  • Coordinate program registration and write activity reports
  • Maintain fishing equipment, inventory, and recommend purchases of program materials
  • Assist with teacher/leader trainings
  • Promote and advertise Discover Nature Fishing Programs via presentations for community groups, at special events, and through a variety of media sources
  • Recruit, train and supervise MDC volunteers
  • Assist Education Coordinator with programs and presentations.
  • Collaborate with environmental agencies.
  • Interact with public during training events and activities.
  • Maintain a safe and friendly learning environment.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or G.E.D./HiSET equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of related experience
  • Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, scanner, and printer
  • Attention to detail.
  • Safety functions (e.g., CPR, First Aid, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and in a group.
  • Ability to travel and work varying shifts, as required.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and weekends when needed.
  • Ability to operate standard fishing equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance on fishing equipment.
  • Ability to pull a trailer.
  • Ability to operate power tools.
  • Ability to perform basic carpentry and mechanical skills.

Work Environment

  • Regularly work in outdoor temperatures, including wet, hot, and/or cold environments.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Lifting over 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy. 

Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
