Summary/Objective

Maintain the grounds and other infrastructure as well ensuring a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors

Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain facilities and grounds through cleaning, mowing, snow removal, and maintaining turf, trees, shrubs, native planting beds, weeding, and mulching, etc.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as zero turn mower, skid steer, and various hand tools.
  • Control nuisance animals, exotic and invasive species.
  • Maintain retaining walls, walkways, planting beds, native plant gardens, courtyards, and trail.
  • Vacuum, dust, and mop all work areas, reception areas and bathrooms.
  • Wash windows.
  • Stock bathroom and janitorial supplies. 
  • Take out trash.
  • Ability to do general construction repairs. 

Ancillary Job Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • One (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment for land management.
  • Knowledge of basic wiring, plumbing, carpentry, and landscape maintenance and repairs.
  • Working knowledge of facility maintenance equipment and the use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to define a problem, analyze relevant information, and develop solutions and plans to solve the problem.
  • Ability to interact with the general public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to develop cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours, as needed.

Work Environment

  • Frequently work in outdoor weather which may be hot, cold, wet or humid.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.
  • May be subject to exposure to mechanical oils, fumes or airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts.

Physical Abilities

  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Frequently operate tools and heavy equipment safely.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, and three-dimensional vision
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
