Summary/Objective
This position will act as field coordinator for the Resource Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) Program. RAM is the Department's wadeable stream monitoring program, with up to six field crews sampling biological, chemical, and physical habitat conditions at stream sites throughout the state. The primary job responsibility will be meeting the logistical needs associated with training, equipping, and fielding these crews.
Essential Job Duties
- Coordinate sample schedules, personnel, and equipment usage with Scientists, Regional Fisheries Management Biologists, and crew leaders
- Initiate and maintain landowner relations at statewide sample sites
- Oversee the recruitment of personnel and supervise statewide crew leaders
- Procure and maintain a fleet of equipment for all crews, including technical equipment and data collection devices
- Perform quality control and assurance of field collection methods and data entry
- Perform training workshops and site visits with crews and Fisheries Biologists
- Oversee all Fish Identification and serve as taxonomic authority
- Participate in sampling as needed
- Meet information requests for researchers and Regional Resource Managers and assist with report preparation.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries, Forestry, Wildlife, Biological Sciences, Conservation, or related field.
- One (1) year professional experience in Fisheries, Aquatic Ecology, or related discipline
- Proficiency in fish identification
- Must maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently in difficult field conditions
- Ability to adapt to a variety of job situations and make sound decisions during long hours, under hazardous conditions and in difficult circumstances
- Ability to use, troubleshoot, and service specialized equipment including electrofishers, water quality meters, GPS equipment, and data collection devices
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems
- Excellent communication, leadership, teaching, and public relations skills
- Methodical data collection and time management
- Ability to travel statewide and stay overnight
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a standard office environment, in a biological laboratory, and in the field in and around water
Physical Abilities
- Operate a computer for extended periods, in both the office and field
- Ability to access remote locations through difficult terrain
- Regularly lift up to 25 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Clarity of vision and ability to communicate

Exemption Status/Special Notes
