Summary/Objective

Provide assistance in wildlife management activities.

Essential Job Duties

  • Use radio telemetry equipment to track and locate marked river otters
  • Collect and manage field data
  • Assist with live trapping and handling of river otters
  • Perform additionally assigned duties associated with furbearer management
  • Educate the public on the goals and objectives river otter research study 

Ancillary Job Duties

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET required.
  • At least one (1) year of related experience
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.
  • Experience using VHF radio telemetry equipment
  • Experience setting live traps for wildlife
  • Experience with handling chemically immobilized wildlife
  • Experience driving 4x4 vehicles (trucks) on paved and unpaved surfaces

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment for building and land management.
  • Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, calculator, camera, scanner and printer.
  • Basic plant identification and wildlife habitat knowledge.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate large trucks

Physical Abilities

  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, and three-dimensional vision
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Move about uneven terrain in the outdoors on both the ground and in water

Work Environment

  • Mainly work in outdoor settings ranging from clear to inclement weather

This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
