Summary/Objective
Administer and coordinate all activities of the Wildlife Health Science Program and serve as the primary point of contact.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide technical support for programs related to wildlife health .
- Serve as point of contact for technical assistance and development guidelines throughout the state.
- Develop, review and recommend processes, guidelines, and protocols for effective and efficient Chronic Wasting Disease management activities.
- Supervise the daily activities of staff, including scheduling, policy compliance, performance review, disciplinary action, time sheet approval and expense reimbursements.
- Represent Department and implement actions to advance the fish, forest, and wildlife mission of the Department.
- Attend and participate in meetings.
- Seek funding through collaboration of Science branch and external partners.
- Provide training and mentoring opportunities for staff.
Ancillary Job Duties
- Serve on internal and external regular and special committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Water Quality, Limnology, Fisheries, Biological Sciences, Ecology, or related.
- 5 years related work experience required; 5+ years desired.
- 1 year supervisory work experience required 3 years desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including demonstrated public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of budgeting principles.
- Ability to travel and stay overnight and meet periodic needs to extended out-of-town travel
- Ability to adapt to a variety of job situations and make sound decisions during long hours, under hazardous conditions and in difficult circumstances
- Ability to work a varied schedule as needed, including weekends and holidays.
Work Environment
- Every day, the position requires work in an office environment.
- Once a week or more (but not every day), the position requires exposure to animals/wildlife and all-weather conditions.
- Once a week or more (but not every day), the position requires work in a noisy environment (possibly distracting and uncomfortable).
- Once a week or more (but not every day), the position requires being in a closed vehicle or operating enclosed equipment (like a car).
Physical Abilities
- Multi-tasking in an office environment, often sitting for long periods at a time.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Lifting up to 15 lbs. regularly; lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
This position has been determined to be Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
