Summary/Objective
Maintain and repair specialized pump systems for water distribution and wastewater collection.
Essential Job Duties
- Inspect and perform needed repairs on pumps, controls, piping, structures and other components.
- Make recommendations for improvements and replacements.
- Diagnose electrical problems.
- Install and retrofit new pumps, perform welding and milling to fabricate special brackets, hangers, fixtures, valves and piping.
- Procure materials, equipment and supplies as required to complete assigned projects.
- Maintain maintenance and repair records, perform condition assessments and upkeep electronic data files.
- Work with vendors to procure repair bids and services for pumps maintenance and replacements.
- Process invoices and expenses receipts following Department business procedures.
- During employment, obtain and maintain OSHA 10, Confined Space Certification, and Pump Installer Apprenticeship.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED/HiSET required.
- Two (2) years of experience in the mechanical or plumbing field.
- Must maintain a valid, current CDL.
- Repair certification preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Electrical, plumbing, and fabrication knowledge.
- Ability to work in close proximity to, and operate, heavy equipment, hand and power tools.
- Working knowledge to operate a backhoe, skid steer, loader, dump trucks, boom trucks and other heavy equipment.
- Ability to work independently on a job site with little direct supervision.
- Knowledge to use survey equipment and read construction plans.
- Ability to keep focused on understanding, anticipating and responding to the needs of customers.
- Ability to define a problem, analyze relevant information, develop solutions and solve problems.
- Ability to maintain focus and intensity, and remain optimistic and persistent even under adversity.
- Ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action.
- Ability to travel statewide and stay overnight regularly up to (3) nights/week.
Work Environment
- Occasionally work in confined spaces, near moving mechanical parts, and in high places, requiring the use of lift devices.
- Regularly work in outdoor weather where wet, humid conditions are possible.
- Frequently exposed to vibration and loud noises associated with power tools requiring hearing protection, to oils, chemicals and airborne particles, and to electrical hazards requiring proper specific safety procedures.
Physical Abilities
- Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
- Operate tools and other machinery and regularly relocate machinery to other areas.
- Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
- Regularly lift up to 75 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds.
- Concentrated attention is required at all times.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
