Summary/Objective

The Construction Project Manager will lead assigned construction projects in coordination with Construction Administration and Design Services. Manages projects from advertising for bids through contract close out, including progress meetings, change orders, RFIs, and pay applications. Reviews contract documents, resolves contract disputes, and works with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Job Duties

  • Manage a wide range of construction projects, from advertising for bids to contract close out.
  • Review and approve submittals, RFIs, and change orders, and work with Design Services on submittals, RFIs, and changes orders related to engineering and architecture.
  • Review construction documents for constructability, errors, and omissions prior to bidding; provide feedback to Design Services.
  • Coordinate with inspectors to oversee adherence to construction contract documents, including addenda and change orders; identify and develop solutions for resolving construction contract-related issues.
  • Monitor for schedule adherence and contract compliance, including contractor progress and inspection and testing report reviews; review and approve contractor pay applications, warranties, and O&M manuals.
  • Coordinate progress meetings, final inspections, and punch list development.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in oral and written formats, including construction status reports, responding to contract inquiries, and developing formal correspondence for all aspects of a construction contract.

Education and Experience

  • Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in construction management, architecture, engineering management, engineering, or closely related field required.
  • 3–5 years related work experience required; 5–8 years desired.
  • 1–3 years supervisory work experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.
  • Understanding of contract administration and project management, including proposals, planning, designing, and evaluating natural resource construction projects.
  • Understanding of data management and record keeping.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles, record keeping, and internal/external audit practices.
  • Understanding of computers, including use of Microsoft Office products, capital planning software, and asset management software.
  • Understanding of civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, as well as design and drafting.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance and Missouri revised statutes.
  • Budget development and implementation, including experience with multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Operation of vehicles and power equipment.
  • Meeting facilitation.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong reading, writing, speaking, mathematical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Time management skills.

Work Environment

  • Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Every day, the position requires work in an office environment.
  • Once a week or more (but not every day), the position requires working in remote locations and operating closed equipment (like a car).
