Opportunity

Become part of a unique and creative design team with the Missouri Department of Conservation. You will use your engineering skill set to develop design projects at our fish hatcheries, wetlands, nature centers, offices, shops and recreational use sites to help improve conservation and connect citizens with nature in the State of Missouri. Your projects will serve a diversity of needs across all our amazing conservation areas and enhance the services the Missouri Department of Conservation provides across the state.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare signed and sealed design plans and specifications, including permit applications, site visits, contract preparation, cost estimates and plan reviews.
  • Collaborate with customers, team members and management on project timelines.
  • Provide support and consultation on code compliance.
  • Train and supervise hourly engineers, and ensure policy compliance.
  • Approve time sheets, and expense reimbursements.
  • Source, hire, assign, and pay consultants. 
  • Oversee and advise technicians, inspectors, and consultants.
  • Manage construction contracts and unforeseen issues.
  • Conduct various meetings and oversee all project progress and deadlines.
  • Assist construction maintenance superintendents and their staff.
  • Review proposals for feasibility and cost, and present studies to management.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Missouri (or ability to obtain certification within the first year of employment).
  • At least three (3) years of experience as an electrical engineer.
  • Must maintain a current, valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use office equipment, such as copier, multi-line phone system, fax machine, scanner, and computer.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Working knowledge of necessary software programs and tools, including Basic Auto CAD and Revit.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action.
  • Knowledge to prepare technical engineering reports and technical specifications.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate between engineers, contractors and Contract Supervisors.
  • Ability to use programmable calculators and other necessary tools.
  • Technical writing/proofreading ability.

Work Environment

  • Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.

Physical Abilities

  • Remain in a stationary position 70% or more of the time.
  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
