Summary/Objective

Ensure valid and accurate benefits enrollment for all current and former employees.

Essential Job Duties

  • Analyze benefit elections entered by employees and retirees, during open enrollment, upon hire or due to life events and match to eligibility documentation. 
  • Assist employees and retirees with new eligibility and open enrollment and report benefit elections and terminations to vendors.
  • Balance payroll to ensure accuracy of deductions made on active and retiree paychecks and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist members with claims and contact customer service reps for research assistance, when needed.
  • Ensure elections are accurately reflected in applicable systems.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET required.
  • Four (4) years progressively responsible technical experience in employee benefits or senior level secretarial experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of state and federal government human resources, compensation and health and welfare benefit laws.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Experience with SAMII or other HRIS software.
  • Ability to use office equipment, such as copier, multi-line phone system, fax machine, scanner, 10 key machine and computer.
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Problem solving ability.

Work Environment

  • Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.

Physical Abilities

  • Remain in a stationary position 70% or more of the time.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy. 

Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
