Summary/Objective

The main role of the Relevancy Chief is to lead the development and implementation of a new Department program focused on the engagement and service to broader constituencies. 

This role comes with the option to telecommute. 

Essential Job Duties
  • Create and lead a new department program and team which focuses on the effective delivery and evaluation of audience-specific messaging, community engagement strategies, non-traditional message delivery, new recreational opportunities, and facilitation of partnership and coalition building to engage and empower a broader constituency involved in nature.
  • Collaborate with Department leadership and regional teams to develop strategies to expand public engagement and recreational use opportunities that resonate with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Develop and foster relationships with both traditional and non-traditional groups and work closely with staff to create and implement new initiatives focused to grow awareness and citizen engagement with the outdoors through conservation related activities.   
  • Coordinate with other divisions to review department regulations, programs and processes to ensure the department is engaging and serving broad-ranging constituencies.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff focused on expanding and empowering citizen conservation efforts through volunteer programs and new partnerships.
  • Coordinate with Department leadership and regional teams to develop strategies to expand public engagement and recreational use opportunities that resonate with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Work to develop internal communication strategies to increase staff’s understanding of challenges related to citizen engagement and interest in conservation.
  • Foster the use of social science information (stakeholder engagement/ inquiry, marketing, education, outreach, communications, economics, and evaluation) to identify, better understand, engage and serve broader constituencies.
Ancillary Job Duties
  • Coordinate with HR to investigate and/or resolve, disputes, accidents and injuries and to interpret, and enforce all applicable HR policies and procedures, including recommendations for corrective action.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences, communications, marketing, education, human dimensions, social sciences or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional managerial experience, with at least four (4) years in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
  • Regularly lift up to 10 pounds, correctly lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
