Summary/Objective

Support engineering surveys for the Design and Development Division.

Essential Job Duties

  • Operates high precision survey equipment including GPS, theodolite, electronic distance measuring equipment, total station, level and programmable calculator.
  • Checks field procedures such as computations, notes and equipment operation to ensure that accuracy of survey data is within allowable limits.
  • Maintains precision survey instruments and equipment; assists with training survey crew personnel to operate precision survey equipment in a safe, proper and accurate manner.
  • Conduct site measurements with survey-grade GPS technologies.
  • Establish bench-level and GPS control networks.
  • Import/export data in computer aided drafting (CAD) environment and develop/edit models.
  • Analyze and interpret survey data and coordinate with users.
  • Operate highly advanced scientific measuring equipment using surveying optical and light-emitting scanning instruments.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a course of study for the Certified Survey Technician test, or related.
  • Four (4) years of experience in conducting engineering surveys.
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work in close proximity to, and operate, heavy equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of electronic survey equipment, including total station, data collectors, GPS (survey grade).
  • Working knowledge of drafting software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Ability to perform bathymetric survey and review the information.
  • Ability to train survey crew members to operate precision survey equipment.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action.
  • Ability to work under stress for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight regularly.

Work Environment

  • Regularly work in outdoor weather environments (cold/hot/humid/wet).

Physical Abilities

  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Constantly operate tools and other machinery and relocate machinery to other areas.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Regularly lift up to 15 pounds, correctly lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
