Summary/Objective

Two seasonal hourly positions working with the St. Louis Regional Fisheries Team. The first position starts in April and ends in August, and the second position starts in May and ends in August.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assist fisheries biologists with electrofishing, netting, trot lining and other field work on lakes, rivers and streams.
  •  Assist with aquatic habitat improvement projects such as brush pile placement and aquatic vegetation establishment.
  • Assist with management of aquatic and terrestrial vegetation in and around public fishing impoundments using herbicide and brush cutters.
  • Keep vehicles, boats, and storage facilities clean.
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related professional experience.
  • Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.
  • Prefer applicants currently pursuing a fisheries related bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, calculator, camera, scanner and printer.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with enthusiasm through adverse weather and uncomfortable conditions.
  • Ability to accurately and legibly record data.
  • Ability to operate brush cutters, weed whips, and power tools.

Work Environment

  • Regular work outdoors in extreme heat, rain and other uncomfortable conditions.
  • Sampling trips sometimes result in long work days.
  • Early arrival/late departure may be required.
  • Occasional overnight sampling trips or weekend work may be requested.

Physical Abilities

  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Regularly operate tools and other machinery and relocate machinery to other areas.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Ability to move about on uneven ground and rough terrain.
  • Ability to maintain balance on moving boats.
