Summary/Objective

Serves as the Chair or Co-Chair of the DCT, determines natural resource management priorities throughout the district using the tiered approach as outlined in the Comprehensive Conservation Strategy.

Essential Job Duties

  • Works with the CPLC and RRM Unit Supervisor to construct the District work plan.
  • Leads District efforts on private and public lands and waters.
  • Uses unique tools to enhance natural resources.
  • Formulates the budget to address district needs.
  • Monitors budget expenditures of district staff.
  • Serves as the primary contact for Business Services staff on budget related issues and contracts.
  • Ensures all staff are reporting work accomplishments on a regular basis and meeting  individual work plan objectives.
  • Leads efforts on area planning, area maintenance standards, Atlas Database, accomplishment reporting, regulations, brochures/maps, area user, complaints/requests.
  • Implements Department priorities such as CWD management and hog eradication.
  • Assists the RRM and CPLC Unit Supervisors in fire management.
  • Ensures district staff acquires and maintains proper fire qualifications and trainings.
  • Assists in training for volunteer fire departments.
  • Completes performance appraisals and quarterly performance reviews and works with supervisors on corrective actions.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fisheries Management, Biological Sciences, or related field.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience.
  • A valid, current driver's license.
  • Pesticide Applicator’s License preferred.
  • A valid, current Class A CDL highly desired but can be obtained after hiring.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to coordinate administrative and management activities to achieve Department goals.
  • Give overall guidance and direction to the field staff to assure their programs are properly carried out in achieving an efficient and productive operation.
  • Evaluate and analyze Branch programs and develop improvements.
  • Make administrative and supervisory decisions in a wide range of management areas including budgeting, personnel and procurement matters.
  • Plan and project future operating needs in staffing and program changes.
  • Resolve conflicts and work effectively with others.
  • Exercise judgment and initiative in interpreting Department and Division policies and procedures and in delegating responsibilities.
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing to subordinates, other Department personnel and the general public.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Department personnel, other agency personnel and the general public.
  • Travel frequently and stay overnight occasionally.
  • Walk long distances in rough terrain and/or dense vegetation.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a standard office environment.
  • Working long hours and occasional weekends.
  • Regularly work in outdoor weather which may be hot, cold, wet or humid.

Physical Abilities

  • Remain stationary up to 70% of the time.
  • Regularly communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
  • Regularly lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes

This position has been determined to be Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy. 

Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
