Summary/Objective

Supervision of equipment shop activities and personnel.

Essential Job Duties

  • Supervise shop technicians and activities to ensure equipment repairs and maintenance are provided in a timely and professional manner.
  • Operate shop machinery, when needed.
  • Monitor employee goals and objectives and complete yearly performance appraisals.
  • Approve invoices, and time sheet entries.
  • Review fleet maintenance, and tool and supply budgets and make recommendations to ensure financial accountability.
  • Provide staff with technical advice and assistance to procure needed equipment.
  • Assist with preparation and processing of surplus property.

Ancillary Job Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in general mechanical repair with three (3) or more years supervisory or administrative experience.
  • Must maintain a valid, current Commercial Driver's License (Class A).
  • Must be able to obtain a Missouri Boating Safety Certification Card within 6 months of employment.
  • Missouri State Inspector Certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to organize and prioritize a varied and heavy workload.
  • Knowledge of auto, truck, heavy equipment, marine, welding and fabrication.
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of job situations involving long hours and difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in interpreting Department and Branch policies and procedures and in delegating responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with others in a team approach for problem solving.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other Department employees, the general public and officials of other public and private agencies.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work varying hours and shifts.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight occasionally.

Work Environment

  • May be subject to exposure to mechanical oils, fumes or airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities

  • Frequently operate tools and heavy equipment safely.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, and precise hand-eye coordination.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
